Nine months ago, milking cows were distributed to a number of orphan families in Nangarhar Province by Orphan Care Afghanistan Organization OCAWO. During this time, the educational progress and health of the cows were monitored two times. Those families that were facing problems with feeding the cow and its calf were assisted with cow feed for its better health and milk production.
When milking cows are distributed to orphan families after a careful survey, there is a clause in their registration form in which the orphan families promise to return the first calf of this cow to OCAWO after the calf grows up and does not need further milk from its mother. OCAWO will give this calf to another deserving family after a detailed survey with the cooperation of the village elders and the first child of this calf will be given to another deserving family in the same manner and this process will continue.
The redistribution of calves is complete in Nangarhar province and will be expanded to other provinces in the near future.
So far this year, OCAWO has distributed milking cows to 100 families of orphans and this assistance is going on. By applying the above procedure, the calves of these cows will be distributed to 100 more families and further redistributed in the same order. Every three years, another calf of each cow will be given to another family.
