Orphan Care Afghanistan Welfare Organization Plants Seeds of Hope: 66 Apple Farms for Orphans

To empower orphaned families, the Orphan Care Afghanistan Welfare Organization (OCAWO) has initiated a mission to plant 66 apple farms in Band e Chak and Sayed Abad districts of Wardak province. This initiative aims to provide sustainable livelihoods for these families, nurturing a future of self-sufficiency.

The recently completed project saw the planting of 5,600 apple trees, a tangible symbol of hope for the orphaned families. With an investment totaling 231,000 Afghanis, these orchards are expected to bear fruit within three years, marking a significant step towards economic stability for the beneficiaries.

Prior to the plantation, OCAWO conducted thorough surveys to identify orphaned families with suitable land and water resources but lacking the financial means to purchase plants. The selected 66 families expressed profound gratitude for the initiative, recognizing it as a vital lifeline for their future prosperity.

“Our hearts are filled with gratitude for OCAWO’s support,” remarked a community elder. “These orchards will not only sustain orphaned families but also contribute to the collective welfare of our community.”

OCAWO’s commitment to empowering orphaned families extends beyond Wardak province. Over the past three years, the organization has established numerous fruit farms, yielding remarkable results and fostering hope in marginalized communities.

However, despite their unwavering dedication, financial constraints have hindered OCAWO’s efforts to extend their reach. A planned project in Kapisa province, targeting thirteen orphaned families, has been postponed due to insufficient funds. The estimated cost for establishing fifteen farms in Kapisa amounts to approximately USD $2,000.

“We appeal to our compassionate brothers to contribute generously to our cause,” urged the director for OCAWO. “Together, we can ensure that no orphaned child is left behind, and every family has the opportunity to thrive.”

As OCAWO continues its tireless efforts to uplift orphaned families across Afghanistan, each apple tree planted symbolizes not only sustenance but also the promise of a brighter tomorrow.
